Renaissance Faire

Couples Renaissance Faire Outfits: 6 Matching Ideas

Woman in a long sleeveless hooded overcoat, white blouse and corset belt in a forest

Going to the faire as a pair? Matching outfits make great photos, but the best couples don't dress identically. They share a world, a colour or a few details. Here are six pairings that work, and a few simple rules for matching.

In short

  • Pick one world for both of you: village, forest, north or court.
  • Share one colour, and let everything else be different.
  • Repeat one detail, such as the same style of pouch or bracer.
  • Different outlines look better together than two copies.

1. The village pair

She wears the Square-Neck Lace-Up Renaissance Dress over a white blouse. He wears the Renaissance Shirt with Laced Sleeves, a vest and trousers tucked into boots. Match her dress colour to his vest or pouch.

2. The ranger pair

Two travellers from the same woods. One wears the Sleeveless Hooded Overcoat, the other the Hooded Ranger Cloak. Both wear laced bracers and boots in the same brown.

3. The Viking pair

She wears the Viking Satin Gown with Laced Bodice; he wears the Cotton Viking Tunic with the Viking Faux Fur Shoulder Cape. A matching Wolf and Hammer Bracer on each of you ties it together.

4. Lord and lady

The court look. He wears a white laced shirt with the green Velvet One-Shoulder Cape. She wears the satin gown or a green laced dress with a Knotwork Circlet with Medallion. Green and gold on both of you reads as one house.

5. The elf and the ranger

One of you in the Hooded Elf Dress Costume Set, the other in the green Hooded Cloak with Leaf Brooch over a tunic. The leaf and the forest greens connect you.

6. Wizard and witch

Great for autumn faires and Halloween. One in the Velvet Hooded Robe with Printed Trim, the other in a black dress and a Velvet Hooded Cloak, with a potion holder each.

Four rules for matching

  1. Same world. A Viking and a Tudor courtier look like they met by accident. Two Vikings look like a story.
  2. One shared colour. Her dress and his vest, or his cape and her circlet.
  3. One repeated detail. The same pouch, bracer or belt style on both of you.
  4. Different shapes. A cloak next to an overcoat, a gown next to a tunic. It looks better in photos than two copies.

Questions people ask

Do couples outfits have to match exactly?

No. They look best when they belong together without being the same: one world, one colour, one detail.

Can we wear different characters?

Yes. Some of the best pairs are opposites, like a knight and a rogue, or an elf and a ranger.
